Hi all. I noticed in my Windows registry that there are some software keys that can safely be deleted. How do I back up the registry in Windows XP? I want to make a back up, just to be safe.

When in regedit, go to the file menu, and click on export. It brings up a standard save file dialogue.

Be oh so careful, even if you have backed up the registry. Don't forget, you may not get a chance to restore your backed up registry if your changes are counter productive and keep you from logging on.

There is a chance to log on to the last good state in that case, but it's long before speech is loaded and you can't do it without sighted assistance.

With all that in mind, let us know how it goes.

The program I use for backing up the registry is ERUNT, its saved me a few times, and is much better than backing it up in the way suggested above. ERUNT's homepage is: http:// www. larshederer . homepage . t-online .de / erunt, I hope the way I've put in the url above is alright with the mods on the board, reason i did it this way is cause its so long, hth
